European Blues Awards 2017 are about to roll again!

EUROPEAN BLUES AWARDSThe 2017 European Blues Awards process is about to begin. Public voting is expected to commence at the start of November and for this, the 36th year Awards. Results will be announced at Lucerne Blues Festival, Switzerland 11-19 November. The details will be posted on the website and during the social media forum #BluesHour on twitter Monday 30th October 20.00 GMT/21.00 CET/15.00 EST. As always the online vote is open to everyone and after record turnout last year is expected to be totally off the scale!

In preparation for this there are two specific things you can do to assist the process. Please feed back as soon as you can any particular artists, radio presenters, events and publications that you feel deserve a place in the final vote process within the 8 categories of Best Guitarist, Best Band, Best Vocalist (male), Best Vocalist (Female), Best Musician (performance), Best Solo/Acoustic, Best Publication and Best Event/Festival.

It has been a very busy year for us evaluating what is on offer and running the forum. However we cannot be everywhere and therefore rely on your help. Please publicly post to the awards twitter account @BluesHour during a forum or send by direct message. You can also email using our new email address europeanbluesawards (at) gmail (dot) com    Any artists suggested must have played live in Europe since November 16. A reminder of course that by posting your nominations during the Monday #BluesHour forums 20.00 GMT/21.00 CET/15.00 EST, there is a massive opportunity to influence and engage a big part of the voter base.

Best album/recorded session category of the European Blues Awards is entirely by public choice and many very worthy considerations have already been received. This year by way of total change the Lifetime Contribution Award will be decided by public consensus. Please email your choice and most importantly a 50 word or less reason (preferably in English but not essential), why your nomination has been made. Once again open to all but no previous winners can be considered of course. This ideally needs to be with the awards team by Tuesday 7th November.

Many thanks EBA Team

Promo Event UK 2017 gets under way

pmt-cd-2 pmt-cardiff

Wednesday 25th January we began a new project aimed at boosting the profile of grass roots blues music to audiences, events and festivals throughout the UK. The European Blues Awards, now in its 36th year has become the biggest genre accolade outside the USA. The plan is to translate that success promoting the message of the blues to a whole new following in a number of prime European centres over the coming years. The UK has been chosen as the focus designation for 2017.

The first road trip was a visit to the welsh capital Cardiff by Bluesman Mike Francis who visited venues and businesses including PMT Music and the Jazz Café. As well as being at the Tenby Blues Festival on our behalf in November, Mike has been a regular performer at the Blues Festival of Wales. “I’m really looking forward to being involved with this very challenging new role and assure you that with such a massive task to hand, appreciate all the help and cooperation I can get”. Other UK visits to London and the West Country are set to follow very soon and plans are already in place to roll out a similar exercise in Scandinavia during 2018.  EBA Team

European Blues Awards prove a Winner at Tenby Blues Festival Wales

Following last year’s European Blues Awards reveal at the O2 Arena London, this year it was the first time Wales hosted the results and Saturday at Tenby Blues Festival proved the perfect location. The awards, now in their 36th year are purely the choice of a colossal week long public vote that makes the genre accolade the biggest outside the USA. It was Bluesman Mike Francis, himself a former nominated finalist recently taken on to represent and promote the message within the UK, who read out the winners before festival headliner and twice award nominee Paul Lamb and band took the stage at the De Valence Theatre.

There are 10 categories in the process; nine of which are under public vote along with an annual Lifetime Contribution recognition that is made by the European Blues Awards team. Overall it was a very successful year for North America as United States and Canadian acts took the honours in 5 of the 9 votes. Award rules mean that anyone performing live in Europe during qualifying period is eligible. The Netherlands ran a close second with wins for Best Musician, Festival and Publication.
